Can a publisher submit a manuscript to NIHMS for inclusion in PubMed Central on my behalf?

Publishers may submit manuscripts to NIHMS on your behalf. Check with the publisher to determine if they provide this service. Manuscripts submitted to NIHMS by publishers require you to complete two approval steps (see the NIHMS Overview).

NIHMS submissions and approvals are not required for articles published in PMC-participating journals. For a list of PMC-participating journals, NIH-funded researchers should visit the NIH Public Access Journal List; all other researchers should view the list of journals with a Full Participation status on the PMC Journal List.

Note: It is ultimately the responsibility of an author or awardee to ensure that a manuscript is submitted in a timely manner to NIHMS in accordance with the participating funder’s public access policy.
